Wellbeing

Being creative through sketching and painting can be good for the mind and body.

Observation skills improve through paying attention to the shapes, textures, colours, light and shade associated with the subjects being worked on. We are rewarded with a new awareness of the richness of the world around us, seeing details and nuances that we could see every day but previously never truly observed the details and beauty therein.

Many say the concentration involved is relaxing and de-stressing because it provides a distraction from the pressures and demands of daily life. Being relaxed helps to reduce blood pressure and heart rate too.

Learning new skills and coordination through the use of different mediums such and pencil, pastel, water colour, acrylics or oils paints. Each has it's own characteristics and exploring which suits your temperament and preferences is a journey of exploration in itself. And a perpetual challenge to new and experienced artists alike is how what is observed in the subject can be transferred from the mind to paper or canvas. What the eyes see is not always what the hands create!
